Special 26 Hindi Movie Review by ReelzOnWheelz

I am so excited this is my first review for a Hindi movie. Well I hope there is excitement on the other side too. As always this is my opinion of this movie , I know am no rotten tomato critic or someone who heads the telegraph. Nevertheless, I am one of the most important person for everyone involved in cinema. Photographer, editor, actor, actresses, producers, music directors and even the light men. Why? Because its for me (or persons like me) you take the movie. We are the viewers you can say the deciders of your destiny.
Watch Trailer of Special 26

So lets get into the review of this movie without further ado. I heard my roommate Dhruv Desai talking about how good this movie was. You can say I was not trusting him too much, as I am such a kind of person who never establishes trust easily on what others say. What caught my eye was the name of the director Neeraj Pandey. The previous outing from him 'A Wednesday' was phenomenal and so that made me grab the copy of the movie from him . The cast of the movie further impressed me, I always find bald headed people to be so attractive (stop that am not GAY). Yes am talking about the great actor Anupam Kher. Then what impressed me more was Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee and Jimmy Shergill. I think this gives me more than enough reason to watch it.

Neeraj Pandey I believe is one of the best directors of subtle touches. There is not much hype or hoopla surrounding his movie. The content is king, you can see in each scene or every second how gripping he makes the film to be to keep you guessing. He is a master of the art of film-making or making the audience get glued to their seats. The first and foremost thing I love about this movie is there is no love in it but reality. I always believe love is an imaginary term like a dream that we love to have but the thing we always posses is reality. This reality is not loved by many but that's what we need to exist with and you are glad to see a realistic film that you keep loving.

The plot of this movie is set in the 1980 and the visuals are so appealing that you feel bad that you did not live in that time(if you belong to my generation). A group of friends posing as CBI officers headed by PK Sharma( Anupam Kher) and Ajay(Akshay Kumar) rob the rich businessman and politicians. Since its black money there are no complaints registered against them and they keep enjoying their outings. The opening mission in the movie of the scamsters is done with the help of the cop Ranvir Singh (Jimmy Shergill). Ranvir later realizes that he has been tricked into the act by fake persons posing as CBI. Then he joins along with the strict cop Wasim Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) to track these criminals.  In the midst of these happenings Neeraj manages to stitch in a beautiful romance on the cards between Ajay (Akshay) and Priya (Kajal). In the end are the criminals caught red handed or is Wasim left red faced forms the rest of the plot.

Actually personally I felt this was not such an impressive script as its taken from a real incident. It would have been great for a book but for a movie, I was not sure. This is where you will start applauding Neeraj, the way he handles characters and the screenplay. He shows that you can make  a racy screenplay with cinema without any commercial elements and yet make your movie a commercial success. There are so many impressive scenes in the movie or there are so many times you connect with the characters. Be it the reveal of the suave  and strict cop Wasim (Manoj Bajpayee). The jovial nature of Ajay or the cat on the wall portrayal by PK Sharma knowing that what he does is not ethical but necessary as a family-man. The conversations between Ranvir and Wasim just keep hitting the target every time. The last half an hour of the movie is an edge of the seat thriller which keeps you guessing till the last second. You can see the satire of the director giving the literal last laugh to Wasim Khan.

The real hero of the movie is us , as the director succeeds in achieving something all directors only love to do make the audience think. This director is an exception as he lives to do that. I was very glad to know that this movie joined the coveted 10 crore club. This is cinema I believe and hope all of you enjoy thinking in this movie.

It will be too harsh for me to rate this movie anything less than 5 out of 5 as it had everything you asked for and more. But I give it a rating of 4 out of 5 as I still believe there can be more brilliance delivered. There is no limit for achievement. Thanks to the whole cast and crew for this experience of real cinema.

Kadal Movie Review by ReelzonWheelz

Kadal- A Mani Ratnam Movie

Coping up with the recent trends of bans for political gains Kadal had some problems too but finally the ocean is out. Even though the movie doesn't strike us like a tsunami it had the feel of breezy waves that kiss our feet on the golden sand. I would like to keep saying this always when I write a review its just my perception of the movie and nothing more.

Kadal on IMDB
Kadal on RottenTomatoes

The movie opens up with a fresh looking Aravind Swamy (Sam Fernandez) joining a Christian missionary where he meets Arjun (Birgman). Both of them are contrasting people Birgman is the sort of person who feels life is about having fun and calls himself the devil or Sathan. He is broadcasted by Mani Ratnam as the most talented person in the missionary. There is a scene such that one of the mainstays at the missionary says that Birgman knows the Bible better than them. Aravind Swamy - Sam or Father Sam as he is called later in the movie represents the angel and he never says so. Birgman is caught by Sam having an illicit affair with a girl and is sent out from the missionary. Birgman says that he will take his revenge soon and hence the plot starts. Gautam Kartik as Thomas has a good part to play but you feel its irrelevant to connect so many characters. Also you feel had the plot been between the seasoned actors like Aravind Swamy and Arjun alone the movie could have been better. Gautam Kartik (as Thomas)is the son of a prostitute and is shown as a careless irresponsible guy with a lot of vengeance towards the society. Father Sam comes and educates Thomas about the life and weaves a path for him to grow.

Over a period of time Father Sam gets accepted at the village of Thomas and as we expect Birgman (Arjun) enters back into the scheme of things. Father Sam saves the life of Birgman but even then Birgman sees this as perfect opportunity for revenge. He sets up a plot to get Father Sam land in big trouble by projecting Father Sam having an illicit affair with a girl. Then Father Sam is sent to Jail. Thomas joins with Birgman and gets his hands real dirty with blood and loves the aroma of it because he feels he is giving back to the society the stench they deserve. Thulasi Nair comes as Beatrice a medical genius with the heart of a child which can be said by some as mentally challenged due to her childhood. Thomas instantly falls in love with her and she too grows fond of him over time. Then the climax is of how Father Sam returns to village and what he does to Birgman and how he reacts to Thomas all form the end of this movie.

Positives or things I liked in the movie. First and foremost god sent music of the man A.R. Rahman. Then, I like the fact that Mani Ratnam has taken Human emotions and tried to play with the thin line of theist and Atheism via angels & demons described in Bible. I think he is trying to tell every Angel has a Demon inside him and every Demon has an Angel inside him. Its the society and the happenings around you that decide which image you project or the path you decide to take. In fact you can find scenes where you feel sorry for the Angel like people and then you see the amount of fun the Demon side has.

I think this is one of the most confusing movies of Mani Ratnam as you can see there is no end or beginning and things keep going on just like that. I find no impact from this movie or any impressive stuff according to my understanding. I know when I say this there is a huge possibility for people to come and taunt me saying you did not understand this movie or this movie has good IMDB rating etc etc. You can find similar reactions from Kamal Hassan fans too when you say you don't like the movie of the actor. My only question is why are you taking a film that normal people like me cannot understand?. I think a director is brilliant only when is brilliance connects with the common man. You can feel so touched and there is a good chance of wiping a tear when you see the movies like Kannathil Muthamittal by this director. I wont say the same for this movie though. I found this movie lowering the standards of Mani Ratnam stamp.

Had this movie been taken by a new director I would have applauded much more but Mani Ratnam this is nowhere near the standards you have set for yourself. There is hardly a dialogue I can remember in this movie, so that reminds us all that Sujatha is no more. I felt after seeing stunning visuals in Ravanan , this time round too Mani sir will give a treat to the eyes through the blue tinge of the ocean. Even that desire was hardly satisfied. Also finally those of you fans of yesteryear stars Karthik and Radha wishing to see some romantic scenes involving their kin . Alaigal Oyvathillai kind of stuff, you will be seriously disappointed.

I may be too harsh on this movie but I say that because of the love , adulation and respect I have for Mani sir, I am sure he will come back with a great movie soon. So all the best for your next outing .

On the whole I will say this movie can be watched its not such a movie where you just wish for it to get over and get out of theater. Not a great entertainer and not a class movie its a very average flick I feel which can be watched once nothing more.

Kadal - A rocky ride on the blue ocean with lots of motion and commotion but hardly any vision.

It can be given a rating of 3 out of  5 maybe.

Please post your comments about the review whatever you feel no problems. Thanks for reading

Vishwaroopam | Tamil Movie Review From ReelzonWheelz

Vishwaroopam Tamil Movie Review

Vishwaroopam Review

There have been lots of talk , hype and hoopla about this movie by many communities and politicians. There is one thing in this world called a perspective that is never viewed wide by the audience. I feel this is the right time to talk about it.

I see some people saying that especially in this Tamil debate with Muslim leaders and cinema personalities that after this movie there wont be peace and harmony between communities in Tamilnadu. Also that Muslims will be viewed henceforth as terrorists. But I see no chance at all for a person like AR Rahman being even called as t*****ist. AR Rahman is a benchmark personality who is making India prouder everyday but I have seen nothing against him just because he is a Muslim. All he has given to us is his love through music and we try to give the same love through our affection.

The first perspective is to view and analyze people rather than community. The second thing is cinema is an artistic work so you can never criticize an artist for his creativity. Also you cannot curb one's creativity just because you think its not right. The point is you are allowed to think its not right and at the same time I am also allowed to think that I am right. In fact all of us should accept nothing is right or wrong in this world as you can see the world we live searches for reason to war. When everyone knows war is unreasonable.

I think all people who think they may be offended by this movie should read this Analysis on Facebook shown to me by my friend.

First some things you should know about my review and me - I have no idea about any religion i.e Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh or etc etc etc. I just believe this all religions have humans and all religions preach peace only their title and languages are different.

So this is just a review from the perspective of a normal film-goer with no hatred or bias to any community at all.

The Review

Vishwaroopam opens with the title written in Arabic font style with the main terrorist feeding a horde of pigeons. One pigeon than flies and lands on top of a statue of a raging bull. This is explained by my friend in Facebook as this

"While title credit goes on at the back ground, one can notice pigeons in their own cages until a man/terrorist walks in, feeds (thoughts of Jihad) those pigeons. He chooses a white pigeon and sends it,and it ain't white anymore,it has some black spots on it; It symbolizes Muslims are brainwashed to Jihads; the black spotted pigeon flies across Wall street, and lands at charging bull; Charging bull implies aggressive financial optimism and prosperity of the American economy at Wall Street,i guess; Kamal sir tries to explain how terrorists had brought American economy down by bombarding Twin tower, and post military, and army expenses which brought down America's economy."

This is something I thought I should share with you to start with the review. The plot is quiet simple Nirupama is a middle class Brahmin who wants to settle down in USA to get away from the stressful middle class setup. Its by luck she is given a chance to marry Vishwanath (Kamal Hassan) who is in United States. She states it as a marriage of convenience. Nirupama has no interest in Vishwanath and is a person with doctorate in Nuclear Oncology. She is interested in her boss Deepak and is feeling guilty about the relation she develops with her boss. She goes for counselling as suggested by her friend. In fact the narration to us from Nirupama opens up in this way. She then tells about how she hired a detective Pete on suggestion of her friend to find out whether Vishwanath has any affair with a girl. So that she can feel less guilty.

Then interesting things unfold about Vishwanath and how all the characters connect throughout the film within hardly half an hour makes you applaud the screenplay of director Kamal Hassan. As we expect Kamal Hassan excels in his role be it that of a Kathak dancer or the role of the terrorist at the Al-Qaeda Afghan camp or the suave looking role of an hero. Pooja Kumar as Nirupama fits the bill even though at times you feel its maybe a percentage similar to Asin's character in Dashavataram. Nasser has a very limited role and so does Shekar Kapur. Andrea's role as Ashmita is good but its very much left unexplained and not much of an impact is felt. Rahul Bose as Omar does a neat job and so does many other characters like Salim, Farooq, Docins and the FBI agents of America.

There is one thing I personally liked in this movie was its boldness in showing the faces of Afghan terrorists, the American political drama and that there are still tears raining in Afghan but there is no hands to wipe it but only heavy hearts. There is a line repeated in the song and also it comes as a dialogue in the movie whoever dies maybe even a demon there is always a mother crying.

The art director of this movie should really be applauded as much as our hands pain .The pains he has taken to erect a setting that is similar to Afghanistan is really commendable. The costumes too deserve a hearty praise as nothing seems stitched against reality. The makeup of Kamal for the terrorist getup is really awesome. There are only 2 songs in the movie and both fit well in the film. The background music is good  but it could have been better one feels.

The part where the Afghan terror camps and their lifestyle is shown makes us wonder what on earth infiltrated their minds so much. We also are sure to feel pity for the kids over there who are forced to become warriors.

The effects and visuals of helicopters and explosions are in par with Hollywood standards. The screenplay of this movie is the real hero as its gripping and fast paced. The climax may not be convincing for a lot of people but its left that way for Vishwaroopam part 2.

                                                   Watch Vishwaroopam Trailer

On the negative side you feel Kamal took the whole screen space. Some characters like Andrea are unexplained in the movie. Also its not really believable that terrorists can converse in Tamil (This is very well known to Kamal but its a commercial addition learning from Hey Ram movie). At times you don't get very clearly what is happening in the movie for instance terms like Nuclear Oncology, Cesium, Faraday shield etc. Also the climax is not fitting at all as it ends haphazardly unexpected. Technically the film is very sound with fast paced editing and screenplay.

Also don't miss the clipping at the end credits where Kamal is shown doing stunts and lands in style for Vishwaroopam part 2 in India.

On the whole I will say if you go with an open mind you can enjoy watching and learning some things from the movie. Its a good and commendable effort by Kamal. Hope he betters this and delivers Vishwaroopam 2

You can find double standard reviews for this movie one will be from Kamal fans saying that its one of the best movies and its in Hollywood standards. Then you can find some people saying that they feel Anbe Sivam Devar Magan were far better movies. Vishwaroopam is worthless just running because of the controversies.

I think , being a middle man and a normal cine-goer. I feel the film is good and watchable. Surely not a boring tasteless movie. But I surely expect more from Kamal Hassan.

Hats off Kamal Hassan for taking your movie and fighting for justice. I am glad that you choose the path of peace for your fight.

All the best

The Dark Knight Rises & leads you from Darkness to Light

Batman Symbol Sathyam Cinemas
Perfect movie to start writing a review for:
The Dark Knight Rises

Its not every day that you get to see a movie of this standard which overhauls your expectations and makes mince of your hypocrisy just with sheer truth.

To start with I have seen The Dark Knight (Say about 4-5 times) and I literally fell in love with the Joker character essayed by Heath Ledger. I have watched parts of The Batman Begins (I am lucky to have watched the part where Batman gets to train under the league of shadows). Trust me on this just see this part alone at least in YouTube its brilliant.

So my review is just from a normal film-goers point of view not someone who is passionate or seriously following the batman franchise (NTM:Now I am making every effort to do it soon).

The film starts in a similar fashion like The Dark Knight conquered by a silent shot showcasing Gotham city welcoming you back to view its splendor. You are glad to see Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) soon in action heaping praise on the former district attorney the late Harvey Dent (Plz watch The Dark Knight to know more) and about the great achievements of conquering crime casualty in the city on his (Harvey Dent) anniversary. The catch is he hides a letter that tells the truth about the former district attorney saying the time has not arrived yet.

(My apologies to all tech and gadget lovers : I am not good or knowledgeable about it so the remaining part is just written from a layman POV; PS: Hope you continue reading).

Then comes the much anticipated entry of the villain Bayne (Tom Hardy) as always giving a grand entry similar to the Joker this time even bigger. Don't want to reveal a lot but just imagine you get your hostage on a plane with armed forces and still you are not safe as you are shadowed by a much bigger bird. Get the picture ya crazy and total fun.

Bruce Wayne and Alfred

The hostage is a Russian man Dr.Pavel who is believed to be the only man on the planet to control the complex nuclear reactor. As you would expect this is built at Wayne enterprises on intent of creating energy and helping out the world. Then the much awaited entry of Christian Bale happens and Bruce Wayne cripples his way through the screen and meets Selina Kayle (a jewel thief and sooner known as the Catwoman).(Don't worry this is not a spoiler).

In due course of time you can get the picture that Selina(Anne Hathaway) just wanted to get hold of Wayne's fingerprints to get it into the hands of someone who wishes to destruct Wayne enterprise and acclaim its power, but things don't go the way he expects and the whole enterprise lands into the hands of Mirinda Tate (Marion Cotillard) who earns the trust of Bruce Wayne through her charity endeavors.

Batman takes on Bane

Then as we expect a lot of things happens, Bayne gets total control of Wayne Enterprises and the Nuclear reactor and he keeps saying he just wants to give Gotham back to its people as Ra's Al Ghul's dream. Then you get it down to the wire and the nuclear explosion is on a countdown and whether Batman, Catwoman, Jim Gordon and all these forces manage to save Gotham forms the remaining part of the story.

(Plz Read the remaining part below its not about the story but about the movie)

There are a lot of spoilers I can say but I know how it feels to be on the receiving end (So I will try to never do it).

So what is so special about the batman and this movie The Dark Knight Rises?

The Dark Knight Rises Bike

First thing is go expecting the maximum level you want from this movie you will get it that is the talent of this great 41 year old man Christopher Nolan.

I believe there were two backstage heroes for this movie one is indisputably Christopher Nolan and the other is Hans Zimmer.

More than the story or the superhero feel you get, its literally the goosebumps and kind of totally getting obsessed and unknowingly you start cheering the Batman deep inside your heart for the truth.

Be it in the initial stages where Bruce gets his small talk with Alfred (Michael Caine) where you see glimpses of the coveted Batman suit or after a long hiatus he visits Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) and he (Fox) takes him to their secret defense lab where you set eyes on the most imaginative weaponery that even USA could not steal from Iraq LOL.

 More Goosebumps Movements below:

  • The entry of the Batman on the bike with big wheels setting the road on fire chasing Bayne.
  • The scene where Bruce takes the long leap to escape from the prison of hell.
  • The scene when you can see Gordon given death by exile by the court system of Bane and he walks over thick ice and once he lights up the fire from the device you can see the Bat symbol on one of the buildings of Gotham through the fire (Really Majestic Looking)

There are many more.

You will really enjoy the characters like Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in the movie. Unexpected twists and turns will form the climax of this classic superhero movie.

The dialogues are just plucked out from heaven for instance try this one

"One Man's tool is another Man's weapon"

Hans Zimmer BGM is the talking point of the movie you will get disturbed by it so such an extent that you can literally sense what's happening just through the resonating sounds of the dark.

After all Christopher Nolan has done you just wish you can build a statue for him and he does that in the movie for our superhero The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight Rises will be a movie which will break barriers and control all the minds of people to be connected with Gotham city and also one of the biggest bets to make people stand for the truth or at least stay in the shadow of it.

One question in all your minds; Does Batman Die?

I will just quote a line from the movie for it

"It doesn't take much to become a hero all it needs is to put a coat over a young boy and assure him the world's not at it's end"

So heroes don't die? No it means there is no dearth of heroes but we always wish for god or superheroes to solve our problems even when he has given us the brains to do it.

Pick Batman Begins, The Dark Knight,  The Dark Knight Rises DVDs and mark them as the 3 of the 100 movies you gotta see b4 u retire into the dark.

My Request to Christoper Nolan:

Christopher Nolan The Dark Knight Rises

I admire you for what you are and what you will become. I am sad that the Batman franchise has ended and am hoping against hope that you do at least minimum of 3 more sequels to it.

Also Chris, I think you are missing one thing in life (reactions in cinema halls). The best place to try it will be Chennai Sathyam cinemas, I hope you come over and watch the movie here, you know the cheers and applause you get here will make you want to come closer to us and feel that you have been honored.

For instance see this is how they honor you on the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises

This is crazy but (Read below)

Rajinikanth The Dark Knight Rises

Chris I think you gotta see movie of this actor called Rajinikanth FDFS in Tamilnadu. You have brilliantly created a mass appeal on screen through your talents but this actor will do it by just coming on screen. I know its impossible but thinking that you both join hands and if you get a movie done. The only trouble you will have is always having a dearth of tickets even for you to see the movie.

My Request to Sathyam Cinemas:

Plz move The Dark Knight Rises to Sathyam main screen instead of Billa 2 that's what is fair I feel and am sure most people will agree.
(No offense to Ajith Fans)

PS; If u have not plz watch the movie in Sathyam Cinemas that's the Real Enjoyment
